Babu Owino & Jaguar Chased Away From Parliament
Newsroom Updated 1 min read
Embakasi East member of parliament Babu Owino and his Starehe counterpart Charles Njagua were chased away from parliament on Thursday morning after failing to apologize for their fist fight at the same ground last year.
The two had been ordered to ask for forgiveness by the Parliamentary Privileges Committee chaired by Speaker Justin Muturi in June for exchanging heavy blows within the parliament buildings. After they refused to apologize, Deputy Speaker Moses Cheboi ordered they be escorted out of parliament. "Ensure that they are escorted to the suitable place designated for strangers at the bar of the house. Thereafter, I will summon each of them at the bar of the house for disciplinary action." said the Deputy Speaker. Proceedings had to stop until the two were escorted out of the chambers with the Deputy Speaker adding that they could not transact business "in the presence of strangers."
However, a few minutes later, the two were allowed back in after giving a verbal apology. Jaguar promised to abide by the responsibilities of leadership set out in the constitution while Babu Owino insisted that he did not slap Jaguar. "On that day, I did not slap Jaguar. It is his cheeks that moved towards my hands and I am ready to apologize ," said the Embakasi legislator.
