Attention Susan: Nakuru Provincial General Hospital is in sorry state

I would like to report the sorry state of the Nakuru PGH. It's a county referral hospital under Governor Kihika but operates with impunity.

A visit to the Orthopedic Ward - Room 10 paints a grim picture. Patients with accident injuries are just bandaged without proper medication and surgeries approvals takes weeks even months. Some wounds are even rotting, and patients might lose their limbs because of hospital's negligence.

A relative of mine, got an accident over a week ago. He's covered by NHIF and fully paid for by the employer but the hospital still demands for a top up of Sh6000 whether employed or not.

The NHIF team sends claims without attaching the Radiology Film and Report, this automatically leads to a disapproval from the headquarters. Why should a patient be punished because of hospital's negligence? Can't the two Susans work together to solve this? - admin A follow up leads to more frustration.

They claim the report is drafted by a doctor based in Nairobi. If one opts to pay in cash for the surgery, they demand Sh105,000 for theatre only and Sh900 daily for the wards. Even after paying the patient must join the waiting list for the surgery.

They claim they do 5 surgeries a day, and only happens from Monday to Wednesday. Why should a referral hospital work with so much limitations? Nakuru Governor H.E Susan Kihika

If one decides to transfer the patient after a long wait, they demand that one must sign the Leaving Without Medical Advice (LAMA) form!

They're practically forcing people into disabilities.

They delay treating a patient and after a week of no proper medication one should sign a waiver.

Why should a county referral hospital operate with so much impunity?

People are practically rotting in the Orthopedic Ward - Room 10. The stench of broken limbs can make a full grown man cry.

Even for simple outpatient services, you'll end up lining up from the morning till late hours, from cashier to consultation room, cashier to lab, cashier to pharmacy. They even charge for IFAS (Sh20 strictly in cash) and these are provided by the government for free to help pregnant moms.

Can you please highlight the problem?
