Al Jazeera Documentary Reveals Fate of Murdered Journalist Jamal Khashogi
Newsroom Updated 2 min read
An Al Jazeera documentary reveals how Saudi agents burned the body of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in a furnace of the consul''s residence in Istanbul. The film, broadcast on Monday, tells about a team of assassins in charge of killing Khashoggi and disappearing his trail.
According to the audiovisual material, Turkish authorities kept watch over the consul's house, as they suspected that the bags with the parts of Khashoggi's body arrived there after he was killed at the diplomatic legation.
Al Jazeera interviewed a worker who built the furnace and he said that following the consul's instructions, the furnace had to be deep and withstand temperatures over 1,000 degrees.
Turkish researchers informed that large quantities of animal flesh were cooked in the furnace to cover the cremation of the Saudi writer's body.
The burning of the corpse took three days, according to Turkish sources.
The specialists' report stated that Khashoggi's blood was discovered on the walls of the consul's office that the team of murderers tried to conceal with paint.
Khashoggi was an implacable critic of the Saudi crown prince. He showed up at the Istanbul consulate to obtain the documents that would facilitate him to marry his Turkish fiancee Hatice Cengiz, who was waiting for him outside the building.
Al Jazeera interviewed security representatives, politicians and Turkish friends of the Washington Post columnist, who was killed on October 2.
About 11 suspects are being prosecuted in Saudi Arabia, whose authorities refused intervention from other countries and even an extradition request expressed by Turkey.
