On June 6, 2020, NCBA Bank announced plans to close 14 branches as part of a merger between NIC Bank and Commercial Bank of Africa (CBA). The decision was made to streamline operations and enhance efficiency and service delivery.

Operations in some of the outlets that were to be merged had been halted in April 2020 to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The affected staff will be redeployed across the bank's network and business units.

NCBA Group Managing Director John Gachora noted that the business had seen an increased use of alternative channels such as online and mobile banking since the start of the pandemic in Kenya.

As a result of the closure, the bank's branch network in Kenya will reduce to 68.
