Former Sports CS Rashid Echesa has spoken out against Deputy President William Ruto, accusing him of abandoning his Tanga Tanga allies in Western Kenya.
According to Echesa, the troubles facing Tanga Tanga in the region are not the fault of COTU Boss Francis Atwoli and Kakamega Governor Oparanya, as some have claimed.
Instead, Echesa points the finger at DP Ruto, saying he is a weak General who has abandoned his troops in the middle of a purge by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“The DP is the General, and we have been fighting for him. I can’t understand how a General can abandon his troops and remain silent when they are being purged the way we have seen in the Jubilee Party,” Echesa said.
He also claimed that if DP Ruto had pleaded with the President, his ally, Benjamin Washiali, would have survived the axe.
“There has been talk about Mr Atwoli and Oparanya pushing for the changes, but I never saw them at State House. The person I saw was the Deputy President and unfortunately, he didn’t raise a finger on the fate of Mr Washiali”, Echesa said.
It is worth noting that Echesa has been a strong defender of DP Ruto in the past, but his relationship with the Deputy President has soured in recent times, with Echesa facing several corruption cases that have implicated DP Ruto.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has been on a purge of his Jubilee House, with top allies of DP Ruto losing their leadership positions and membership in various Committees in both the Senate and the National Assembly.
