On May 28, 2020, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (Kura) announced that the long-overdue repair works on the Kasarani-Mwiki road would commence after the tender to construct the road was awarded.
Months later, the contractor has finally started work on the road, bringing relief to residents who have been affected by the dilapidated road.
The main project works include the rehabilitation of approximately 3.6km of roads in Kasarani-Mwiki Road and Sunnyside Court Estate Roads, which is approximately 0.6km long.
According to the contract, the main project works comprise of rehabilitation to bitumen standards and construction of drainage structures on instructed sections.
The works proposed will include the construction of 7.0m carriageways with 1.0m wide shoulders, open drains on either side of the road, road furniture, utility relocation, safety provisions, and protection works.
The contractor will maintain the road for a year once the construction has been completed.
Residents of Kasarani and Mwiki areas had previously protested over the poor state of the road, with transport being paralysed for four days in January.
