On Sunday, February 23, 2020, the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) handball team made a statement in the Kenya Handball Federation men's National League, defeating Warriors 40-18 at the Kaloleni grounds in Nairobi.
This win propelled NCPB to the top of the league table, joint with Rangers, who were not in action over the weekend. NCPB has 28 points, with four matches in hand, and remains unbeaten.
Nicholas Okore and Timothy Kami were the top scorers for NCPB, each scoring seven goals. For Warriors, Moses Odour and Cyprian Osana emerged as top scorers with seven and four goals respectively.
Elsewhere, Makueni Bees suffered a disappointing weekend, losing to Technical University of Kenya (TUK) 30-19 and Kenyatta University 36-31. The Bees had earlier lost to Buccaneers 31-28 on Saturday.
Despite the losses, Bees coach Gerald Juma remained optimistic, saying the league was a learning curve for his young team.
"When we pick a win, we are happy because these are students from Mbooni Secondary School. But when we record losses, then we have to borrow positives and learn from our undoing so that we can be better ahead of the next fixtures. But at the end of it all, we hope our participation in the league will give us an upper hand during the national School Games," Juma said.
