On February 14, 2020, the men's Kenya Handball Federation National League was heating up with several teams vying for the top spot. Champions National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) and Black Mamba were among the top contenders, with both teams boasting unbeaten records.
NCPB, with 24 points from 12 matches, was second in the league, while Black Mamba, also with 24 points, was third. The two teams were set to face off against each other, with NCPB taking on Makueni Bees on Saturday and Black Mamba facing off against the Bees on Sunday in a sibling rivalry match.
According to NCPB team manager Edina Kasandi, the team's intention to retain the title remained on course. 'Our opponents are coming up pretty well this being their first time in the league but we are not going to give them the satisfaction. We will be going for a win as we target to score as many goals as we can,' Kasandi said.
Black Mamba coach Martin Abunde, whose team was coached by his elder brother Gerald Juma, was also confident of a win. 'It will be an interesting tie considering I will be lining up against my elder brother. However, we are keen on winning the tie as our aim is to reclaim the trophy we last won in 2018,' Abunde said.
Meanwhile, KDF, who occupied sixth place in the 25-team league with 18 points from nine matches, were set to face off against visiting Rangers in the only women's match of the day.
