On January 31, 2020, the government announced a restructuring program for the agricultural sector, which includes the merger of the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) with the Strategic Food Reserve.
Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya explained that the restructured program will allow private millers to store their cereals at NCPB facilities at a cost, increasing the storage capacity and enabling farmers and private millers to store their cereals at a fee.
The revamp of NCPB facilities is expected to enhance food security in line with the government's Big Four Agenda.
