Mobile Lending Apps Used to Rob Residents in Kajiado

Residents of Illasit in Loitoktok, Kajiado, have been targeted by thieves who use mobile lending apps to rob them of their money and valuables.

According to the area's chairman of Nyumba Kumi, Mr. Daniel Kiharo, the group of thieves wakes up residents in the middle of the night and forces them to borrow money from Mshwari or Tala, which is then transferred to their accounts.

"They are waking you from your bedroom, and if you do not have any money, they take your phone and apply for loans from mobile lenders," said Kiharo.

The thieves also steal other valuables such as household items and clothes, and have been known to break into houses when residents are away.

Residents believe that the rise of drug abuse in the area is driving this new form of theft.

As a result, residents have asked the police in the area to step up their night patrols to prevent further incidents.
