On January 4, 2020, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced the arrest of three suspected fraudsters who had ripped off a man in Nairobi.
Paul Sirere, Jackline Magaya, and Alex Kingwa allegedly defrauded the man Sh410,000 after promising him a job in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
According to the DCI, the trio had lured the victim into their trap by promising him a KDF job, and a meeting was held at Accra Hotel in Nairobi to finalize the deal.
However, the victim became suspicious after showing the fake KDF calling letter to a friend and sought clarification from the DCI.
Following an investigation, the DCI found the letter to be fake and launched a manhunt for the trio in a joint operation with military police.
The trio was caught at the meeting venue on Friday and is expected to be arraigned on Monday, January 6, 2020.
Three more fake KDF calling letters were found at the venue after a search, and the suspects are expected to be charged with obtaining money by false pretences.
