KMPDU Secretary General Dr Ouma Oluga Fends Ex-Senator Boni Khalwale

Dr Ouma Oluga, the Secretary General of the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU), has faced backlash from ex-Senator Boni Khalwale after he defended his stance on advocating for all doctors in Kenya.

On November 8, 2019, photos of Dr Khalwale holding stones went viral after he engaged rowdy Kibra youths in a daring stone-throwing battle during the Kibra by-election.

Dr Oluga took to his Twitter handle to condemn Dr Khalwale's actions, stating that it was disheartening to see medical doctors being humiliated by the government. He emphasized that the KMPDU keeps advocating for the employment of all doctors to ensure that every Kenyan has access to medical care.

However, Dr Oluga found himself on the receiving end after netizens trooped to his page and chastised him for affirming every medic, including those whose actions were utterly uncalled for.

Dr Khalwale had responded to Dr Oluga's condemnation, stating that he had never bothered reaching out to the government for employment and was doing much better out there.

Dr Oluga responded by stating that it was his responsibility to defend all doctors in all circumstances, as he has always done.

He emphasized that he speaks for all doctors in Kenya, including those who may not know how to use their positions in the national assembly, senate, or government to correct the health system challenges.
