After years of grappling with water shortages, Nairobi County is set to embark on a multi-million shilling water project to boost supply to residents.

The project, which will commence in February 2020 and take 10 months to complete, aims to connect pipes from Kabete to Nairobi's South C estate, where a huge storage tank will be located.

According to Nairobi County, the current water supply is insufficient to meet the demand, with the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) producing a maximum of 526,000 cubic meters daily against a demand of 790,000 cubic meters.

"After laying the lines, we will non-stop until we complete the work by December next year," said Nahashon Muguna, Urban Water's acting Managing Director.

The project is part of the county's efforts to address the perennial water shortages, which have been affecting residents for over two years. In April 2017, rationing started as demand for the commodity outstripped supply.
