On Tuesday night, a botched ATM robbery attempt in Ruiru town led to the arrest of four suspects, including two security guards.

The suspects, Hillary Ng'eno, 37, a KK security guard, Jared Nyang'au, 31, a G4S security guard, Douglas Momanyi, 34, a boda-boda rider, and Jacob Barasa, 43, were unsuccessful in their attempt to steal Sh100 million from the Barclays Bank ATM.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects had made several attempts to empty the ATM, but were thwarted.

Among the items seized from the suspects were a mobile phone used to make contact with a source, a nylon sack intended for loading the money, and a motorcycle for their escape.

The four suspects are currently in police custody pending investigations and arraignment in court.

It is worth noting that in April this year, a similar incident occurred in Nairobi, where over Sh14 million was stolen from three Barclays Bank ATMs.
