Police Foil ATM Robbery, Four Arrested

On October 23, 2019, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) foiled an attempt to steal from a Barclays Bank Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in Ruiru, Kiambu County.

Four suspects, including two security guards, were arrested in the act. The guards, Hillary NG'ENO of KK Security and Jared NYANG'AU of G4S Ruiru, were among those apprehended.

Also arrested were a bodaboda operator, Douglas MOMANYI, and a fourth man, Jacob BARASA. Police seized a mobile phone and a bag believed to contain the stolen loot, as well as a motorbike that was on standby.

According to the DCI, the four suspects were ambushed by detectives after several attempts to empty the ATM failed.

The suspects are currently in custody as police launch investigations into the incident.
