On October 23, 2019, a daring attempt to rob Barclays Bank ATMs in Ruiru ended in the arrest of four suspects, including a G4S guard and a KK Security Ltd employee.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects had attempted to empty the ATM several times with no success.

Among the items seized from the suspects were a mobile phone used to make contact with a source, a nylon sack intended for loading money, and a motorcycle for their escape.

The suspects, identified as Hillary Ng'eno (KK Security Runda), Jared Nyang'au (G4S Ruiru), Douglas Momanyi (bodaboda rider), and Jacob Barasa, are in police custody pending investigations into the matter.

The arrest comes on the heels of a similar incident in September 2019, where a G4S employee was arrested in connection with the Ksh.72 million Nairobi West heist.

Additionally, in April 2019, at least Ksh.14 million was stolen from three Barclays Bank ATMs in Nairobi, with the ATMs in Mutindwa area, Kenyatta National Hospital, and Mater Hospital being targeted.
