On October 14, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Edwin Abonyo, husband of the late Bomet Governor Dr. Joyce Laboso, as a member of the State Corporations Advisory Committee.
Abonyo's appointment was announced in a gazette notice, marking a significant development in his career.
During Dr. Laboso's funeral in August 2019, President Kenyatta praised Abonyo for his exemplary traits, urging Kenyans to emulate him.
He commended Abonyo's integrity, citing an instance where Abonyo revealed that he never secured a tender from Bomet county government despite being a contractor and his wife being the governor.
President Kenyatta also praised Abonyo's resolve to shun certain customs and traditions, such as men insisting on their wives adopting their last names.
