Victoria Commercial Bank CEO Yogesh Pattni and his wife have obtained court orders to gag top Nairobi blogger Cyprian Nyakundi, who has been exposing corruption and malpractices at the bank.
The orders, issued by the Milimani law courts on September 24, 2019, bar Nyakundi from commenting on matters related to corruption, adultery, money laundering, or linking the CEO and his wife to these vices on his blog, cnyakundi.com.
The move comes after Nyakundi's series of articles on his influential site put the bank under the spotlight for corruption, impunity, and Central Bank of Kenya guidelines violations.
It is alleged that the bank experienced a bank run after the series of articles, which are normally read by upper-class citizens and corporate bigwigs.
Nyakundi has been a thorn in the side of the bank, and this latest development is seen as an attempt to silence him.
However, the court orders have sparked outrage among Kenyans, who see this as an attempt to gag free speech and stifle investigative journalism.
