On October 2, 2019, Kenya Power and Lighting Company published a public notice announcing a change in the company name.

The notice, published in local dailies, stated that shareholders had agreed on the name change and the necessary certification had been obtained.

"Notice is hereby given that The Kenya Power and Lighting Company Limited has changed its name to The Kenya Power and Lighting Company PLC, following due approval by shareholders and on receipt of the certificate of change of name issued by the Registrar of Companies," the notice read.

The change from "Ltd" to "PLC" signifies a shift from a Private Limited Company to a Public Limited Company.

As a PLC, Kenya Power and Lighting Company is now allowed to trade shares in the stock exchange market without seeking approval from the company shareholders.

However, the new change has yet to reflect on Kenya Power's official communication channels.
