Kenyan Politicians' Infidelity: A Reflection of Society? ¶
Published on September 19, 2019, a now-defunct Tanzania rap group's song 'Pesa, Siasa, pombe na wanawake…Ndio yaweza fanya wanaume wauwane' (Money, Politics, liquor and women can make men fight unto death) seems to have been justified by the actions of some Kenyan politicians.
From county assemblies in Mashinani to the imposing Parliament buildings in Nairobi, the pungent scent of adultery has become a recurring theme. Politicians have been accused of engaging in illicit affairs, both within and outside the country.
One such incident occurred during a Senate Mashinani event in Kitui, where a female senator allegedly went on a date with two male colleagues. The drama unfolded when the lady lawmaker made advances at one of the senators, only to ditch him for the other.
While this incident may seem trivial, it highlights the prevalence of infidelity among Kenyan politicians. In 2013, former Turbo MP Elisha Busienei allegedly became violent towards ex-Taveta Woman Representative Joyce Lay for refusing his sexual advances.
Busienei is said to have insulted Lay and slammed a door in her face during a visit to Japan. The incident sparked a heated debate, with Lay calling out her colleagues for disrespecting women MPs.
