On September 18, 2019, Sarah Wairimu, a suspect in the death of her husband Tob Cohen, wrote to Chiromo Mortuary demanding the release of his body. The letter, seen by Nairobi News, was written by her lawyer Philip Murgor.
According to the letter, Wairimu demands that after the postmortem exercise, the body of the late Cohen should not be released to anyone else, including his sister Gabriele Cohen.
"Our client demands that the remains are not released to Gabriele Cohen as she has no legal authority or mandate to take our client's body let alone bury him," reads the letter in part.
Wairimu's lawyer argued that she is still lawfully married to the late Cohen and therefore has the right to decide how his body is handled.
He also claimed that Cohen's sister was in a hurry to be given the body and quickly bury him at an unknown place, before leaving the country.
Wairimu, who is the prime suspect and currently remanded at Langata Women's Prison, was allowed to view the body of her late husband under tight security at the Chiromo Mortuary on September 18, 2019.
She is expected to take a plea on September 26, 2019, and has undertaken to pay the preservation charges for the body.
