Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero is facing a tough legal battle as the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) demands he pay KSh68 million allegedly lost in illegal payments to a law firm during his tenure.

According to a letter sent to Kidero and his accomplices on September 12, 2019, the EACC is demanding payment of the sum of Sh68 million in restitution, being Nairobi City County funds fraudulently paid and received.

Dr. Kidero claims that the genesis of the allegations arose in 2011 within the defunct City Council of Nairobi, and that all payments made by the county government during his regime were simply outstanding legal fees due to the said law firm.

However, the EACC insists that Dr. Kidero should take full responsibility for the loss of the Sh68 million.

On September 13, 2019, Dr. Kidero moved to court to challenge the allegations, but the EACC has given him and his accomplices 14 days to pay the money or face possible action.
