On September 19, 2019, Akothee made headlines after she was invited to parliament by MP David Sankok.

According to reports, Akothee was dressed in a lime green skirt suit, which was deemed too short by some MPs. The parliament's rules dictate that women should cover their skin, with some MPs calling for women to wear skirts below the knee.

When orderlies attempted to hand her a kikoi to wrap around her mini skirt, Akothee rejected the offer, sparking further controversy.

MP Sankok defended Akothee's choice of attire, stating that she was 'extremely well dressed' and that he had 'analysed her from all angles' before inviting her to parliament.

However, Sankok also acknowledged that the parliament's rules state that skirts should be below the knee, and that he had been told as much when he arrived at the gate.
