On August 29th this year, Huawei's patent for a 'Mobile terminal and display method thereof' was published, revealing the company's ambitious plans for an under-display camera system.
First announced in 2018, the patent application showcases Huawei's innovative approach to achieving an all-display look without the need for notches or sliding/pop-up systems.
According to the patent, Huawei plans to place not only the selfie camera but also the LED indicator, light emitter, and flash under the display, ensuring that these components are invisible when the screen is in use.

When the selfie camera is in use, the upper portion of the display becomes fully transparent, allowing users to see the sensors and camera under the screen for clear pictures.
Additionally, the patent details that the transparent part could be extended to other parts of the display, potentially working well with optical sensors, and may have other uses that are not yet known.
While OPPO and Xiaomi have also announced their own under-display camera systems, Huawei's approach may offer a clearer and more seamless experience.
It remains to be seen when this technology will be available on a Huawei phone, but with the patent filed as late as 2018, it's possible that we may see it in mid-next year or sooner.
