On September 18, 2019, a policy advisor attached to the Ministry of Petroleum and Mining was arrested in Nairobi for allegedly soliciting a Ksh.500,000 bribe.

The officer, identified as Joshua Lonyaman Angelei, demanded half a million shillings to fast-track the issuing of a mining permit to a company known as Indepth Mining Limited.

DCI detectives laid a trap for the officer and nabbed him at Nakumatt Junction on Ngong Road, where he was waiting to receive a down payment of Ksh.100,000 in US dollars.

According to the DCI, a trap was laid whereby the marked and serialised US Dollars were handed to him by the Agent of the Mining company. He received the money and pocketed them on the right side of his coat.

The officer was detained at Parklands Police Station and is expected to be charged with the offence of soliciting for bribes and abuse of office.
