Key suspect in Tob Cohen's murder, Peter Njoroge Karanja, has suffered a setback after a Kiambu court rejected his application to be released on bond or bail.
The court, presided over by Senior Principal Magistrate Stella Atambo, ordered that Karanja be detained at Kiambu Police Station for 14 days to allow detectives to complete their investigations.
According to the court, the detectives had given compelling reasons for holding Karanja longer, citing the complexity of the case and the need to subject gadgets recovered from him to forensic investigations.
The defence lawyer, Festus Mbati, had objected to the decision by the Director of Criminal Investigations to transfer Karanja from Kiambu Police Station to Muthaiga Police Station, expressing concern about his safety.
However, the court accepted Karanja's request to be detained at Kiambu Police Station, where he has been since his arrest.
The case will be mentioned on October 3, when the 14 days elapse.
