Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has secured a new long-term contract with the club, extending his stay until 2024 with the option for an additional year.
Lindelof, who joined United from Benfica in 2017 for £31 million, has overcome a challenging start at Old Trafford to become a first-choice central defender.
According to Mirror Football, Lindelof's representatives have been in talks with United over a new deal, resulting in a significant salary increase to £150,000-a-week.
United believes Lindelof, along with £80m summer signing Harry Maguire, can form a successful and long-term central defensive partnership at the club.
On signing the new contract, Lindelof expressed his gratitude to the club, stating, 'Since the day I arrived at United it has felt like home. I have grown significantly both as a player and as a person in the last two years and for that, I am grateful to everyone at the club for their help and support.'
He added, 'I love playing football and my aim now is to help the team to win trophies and repay the fans for their unrivalled support.'
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised Lindelof, saying, 'Victor has established himself here and has become a very important part of our team. He brings calmness on the pitch and I can see that he is determined to help this club and to be successful here.'
Solskjaer expressed his happiness at Lindelof's commitment to the club, stating, 'I’m extremely happy that he has committed his future to Manchester United. We’re all looking forward to working together to deliver the success and get United back to where we know the club belongs.'
