On September 18, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President Dr William Ruto met with Jubilee Party candidate Macdonald Mariga at State House in Nairobi.
According to a statement from the President's office, Uhuru wished Mariga success in the contest and assured him of his full backing.
Mariga, a retired football star, has faced numerous challenges in his bid for the Kibra seat, including being blocked from contesting three times.
Despite these obstacles, Mariga remains a strong contender, with the support of key figures in the Jubilee Party, including Deputy President Ruto.
Other leaders present at the meeting included National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and Jubilee Party Chief Whip Benjamin Washiali.
Mariga's candidature has been endorsed by several lawmakers, including Moses Kuria, Maina Kamanda, Ngunjiri Wambugu, and Irungu Kang'ata, who have publicly stated their support for the former football star.
