On September 18, 2019, Sarah Wairimu, a suspect in the death of her husband Tob Cohen, wrote to Chiromo Mortuary demanding the release of her husband's body after a postmortem exercise.
According to a letter seen by Nairobi News, Wairimu's lawyer Philip Murgor stated that his client demands the body not be released to anyone else, including Cohen's sister Gabriele.
"Our client demands that the remains are not released to Gabriele Cohen as she has no legal authority or mandate to take our client's body let alone bury him," the letter read in part.
Wairimu's lawyer argued that she is still lawfully married to the late Cohen and that her rights as a wife have not been taken away by the ongoing investigation.
He insisted that Wairimu was innocent under the Kenyan Constitution and that nothing had happened to take away her right to her husband's body.
Wairimu, who is the prime suspect and currently remanded at Langata Women's Prison, was allowed to view the body of her late husband under tight security at the Chiromo Mortuary on September 18, 2019.
