On September 18, 2019, a dramatic scene unfolded at Parliament when singer Akothee, accompanied by nominated Senator David Ole Sankok, attempted to enter the premises. However, she was blocked by Parliament security, citing her attire as the reason.
According to eyewitnesses, Akothee was wearing a 'mini skirt' that prompted the security personnel to take action. The singer was subsequently escorted to a separate room, where she was asked to cover herself with a lesso.
Despite the initial blockage, Akothee was later allowed to access the Parliament building, amidst protests from some female legislators who disagreed with the security personnel's decision.
This incident is not the first time Akothee has been at the center of controversy. Earlier this year, she attracted the attention of public watchdog Ezekiel Mutua, who criticized her stage performances as obscene.
Responding to Mutua's comments, Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris defended Akothee, stating that there was nothing wrong with her performance.
