On September 17, 2019, Maryanne Kitany, the former chief of staff in the Office of the Deputy President, made a last-minute decision to skip the burial of Senator Mithika Linturi's father in Meru, citing fear of public humiliation.

Kitany had initially indicated that she would attend the ceremony, despite the messy divorce between her and the senator continuing to unfold in court.

However, it has now emerged that Kitany abruptly changed her mind while on her way to the burial, when she learnt of plans to oust her from the venue.

Her decision might have been wise, given that the Linturi family made no mention of her in the burial programme, with her name missing from a list of family members printed on the funeral programme.

Kitany had claimed that she tied the knot with the politician in April 2016 and had consistently visited the home, but her name was not included in the programme.

Linturi's wife, Mercy Kaimenyi, was listed as the daughter-in-law of the Meru Senator's late father.
