On September 18, 2019, Ezekiel Mutua, the CEO of the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB), weighed in on the controversy surrounding a young boy's vulgar video that had gone viral on social media.
According to Mutua, Kenyans' general negligence was to blame for the new development, rather than the young boy himself. He pointed out that national leaders, preachers, and media houses often set a bad example, using vulgar language and promoting immoral behavior.
Mutua cited several examples, including Hon. Babu Owino's use of vulgar language against the Deputy President, Pastor Ng'ang'a's crazy antics, and media houses playing dirty music on television. He also mentioned how some grown-ups, like Willy Mutunga, Esther Pasaris, and Moses Kuria, had mocked him for his efforts to regulate content.
Mutua concluded that Kenya was at a crossroads, and that a national conversation on moral values was necessary to prevent the country from sliding further into immorality. He emphasized that moral values were the basis of national development and societal stability, and that the kind of media children were exposed to would shape their values.
Do you agree with Ezekiel Mutua's call for a national conversation on moral values?
