On September 18, 2019, Kenyan artist Esther Akoth, popularly known as Akothee, made headlines after she was barred from entering a members-only restaurant in Parliament due to her revealing green micro mini-skirt suit.

According to reports, Akothee was visiting nominated MP David Sankok when she was blocked by Parliament security. The artist was said to have caused a commotion as male MPs jostled for a glimpse of her.

After a nearly five-minute confrontation with parliament orderlies, Akothee was allowed into the restaurant, but not before she rejected attempts by the orderlies to hand her a kikoy to wrap her mini-skirt.

She was eventually whisked away by security through the backdoor and allowed into the restaurant.
