Ahmednasir Seeks to Bar Senator Orengo from Weston Hotel Land Dispute Case ¶
Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has asked the court to exclude Senator James Orengo from representing the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) in a land dispute concerning Weston Hotel.
According to Ahmednasir's pleadings, Senator Orengo's name was missing from the list of panel of advocates appointed by KCAA to act on their behalf. Additionally, Ahmednasir argued that as the leader of Minority in the senate, Senator Orengo serves as a state officer and should be prohibited from undertaking any other gainful employment.
Furthermore, Ahmednasir argued that Senator Orengo is ineligible to represent KCAA as he had competing interests in the case due to his previous role as Lands Minister during retired President Mwai Kibaki's tenure. Ahmednasir also claimed that Senator Orengo had not received instructions to act on behalf of KCAA.
Off the record, Ahmednasir told the court that Senator Orengo was in the case for political mischief intended to muddle the issues in contest for a temporal political nuisance, if not to gain political capital for his principal in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party with a view to scandalize and vex the Weston Hotel.
