On September 18, 2019, a disturbing incident unfolded at St. Paul's Gulf Academy in Bondo town, where a 25-year-old primary school teacher, Everline Akinyi Otieno, was stabbed by her husband in the school compound.

According to the teacher, her 32-year-old husband, Kevin Otieno Ochieng, stormed the classroom where she was teaching and demanded her phone, which she handed over. He then left the classroom and returned, attacking her with kicks and blows in front of her pupils. The situation escalated when Ochieng drew a knife and stabbed Otieno on the neck and left cheek.

Despite being treated at Bondo Sub-County Hospital and discharged, Otieno was forced to seek refuge at her paternal home in Alego-Usonga sub-county. In an interview with The Standard, Otieno revealed that she and her husband had been experiencing domestic wrangles for a long time, with Ochieng having threatened to kill her on several occasions.

Director of St. Paul's Gulf Academy, Mr. Indere Ambajo, confirmed the incident and stated that the public chased and caught Ochieng, subjecting him to thorough beatings before taking him to Bondo Police Station. However, Ochieng was released under unclear circumstances.
