The Ndakaini half marathon is set to return for its 16th edition on November 9th, 2019, at the Ndakaini dam in Murang'a County. The event, which has been a staple in the Kenyan running calendar, will feature a challenging 21KM race, a scenic 10KM race, and a 5KM family-fun run.

According to James Mukuna, the Sports Chairman of the Ndakaini Environmental Conservation Association (NDEKA), the marathon will not feature prize money for elites for the second year running. Instead, the focus will be on attracting amateur runners and raising funds for the conservation of the Ndakaini dam's catchment area.

Since its inception, the marathon has raised over Ksh 120 million for conservation efforts. It has also become a proving ground for some of Kenya's greatest long-distance runners, including Catherine Ndereba, Abel Kirui, Samuel Wanjiru, and Patrick Kipng'eno.

Registration for the marathon is now open, and Mukuna has hinted that sponsors for this year's event will be announced in due course. The interest from the corporate sector to participate in the event has been significant, and organizers are expecting a big turnout.
