After a summer of uncertainty, Victor Wanyama is set to make his long-awaited return to the pitch in Tottenham Hotspur's Champions League opener against Olympiacos in Athens, Greece, on September 18, 2019.
Wanyama, the Kenyan midfielder, has been included in the Spurs' squad for the match, which will be staged at the Karaiskaki Stadium.
With a number of players ruled out due to injury, including Juan Foyth, Giovani Lo Celso, and Ryan Sessegnon, Wanyama has earned a rare call-up to the squad and will be hoping to make his first appearance for Spurs this season in Athens.
Wanyama has been linked with several European clubs this summer, but no deal was reached, and he remained at Tottenham Hotspur. The arrival of Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon and Mauricio Pochettino's preference for youngster Oliver Skipp over Wanyama saw the Harambee Stars skipper fall out of favor at the London club.
However, with a lack of depth in the midfield, Wanyama has been given a chance to redeem himself and prove his worth to the Spurs' manager, Mauricio Pochettino.
Wanyama is keen to fight for a place in Pochettino's starting lineup and will be hoping to make a positive impact in the match against Olympiacos.
