On September 18, 2019, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations-Kenya (DCI) made a significant breakthrough in a long-running Kuwait job scam, arresting eight suspects in Nairobi.

The suspects, who had been operating from 680 & Clarrion Hotels in Nairobi, had been collecting money from unsuspecting job seekers, promising them jobs in Kuwait. However, the victims were never transported to Kuwait, and the money was allegedly used for logistics, training, and transport that never materialized.

According to the DCI, over 300 jobless Kenyans had been defrauded of up to Ksh. 130K each. The suspects, who included Franline Otieno, Kevin Olondi, Stella Cheruto, Joseph Gikonyo, Catherine Ngendoi, Habiba Shafi, Aisha Mohamed, and Mary Ogola, are set to be arraigned in court after being processed.

One suspect, believed to be from the National Youth Service (NYS) HQs, who had been receiving millions of shillings is still at large, according to the DCI's official Twitter account.
