On September 18, 2019, Google removed CamScanner from the Play Store after security researchers at Kaspersky discovered malicious code libraries in the app.
Developed by Chinese group CC Intelligence, CamScanner had earned rave reviews from nearly 2 million users who had rated it on the platform.
However, the app's developers confirmed that the malicious code had been added by a third-party they used for monetizing the app, AdHub, which put users of version 5.11.7 of the application at risk.
Following the removal, CamScanner's developers promised to remove the suspicious code and release clean versions of the app.
After additional testing, the app has now been reinstated on the Google Play Store, with users advised to update their apps if they are still running versions 5.11.3 to 5.12.0.
