September 18, 2019 - Bungoma GK Prison has been plagued by low working morale among its officers, who claim that their boss, Assistant Commissioner Wilfred Kati, is ruling them with an iron fist.
According to sources, Kati does not consult with his officers and often shouts them down or threatens them with transfer if they dare raise a complaint.
“Since I was deployed here six years ago, I haven’t met a boss like this one who is always right and dissenting voice is a sign of disrespect and rudeness which is punishable,” said an officer.
The officers also alleged that Kati brags of having good relations with his seniors and threatens to transfer some of them to far-flung areas.
“We thought that as our boss, he should create a good working relationship with us. Why is he threatening us every time? We are actually tired and fear working with him. We need change or else let us be transferred to other facilities,” they said.
Two weeks ago, the prison in charge, Wilfred Kati, assaulted a procurement officer, Patrick Chemobo, leading to serious body harm. Chemobo was subsequently transferred to Isiolo GK Prison as a punishment.
Bungoma South DCIO Joseph Nzioka confirmed that they were investigating the incident and would take action against the culprit.
