McDonald Mariga, the former Harambee Stars midfielder, is facing a fresh hurdle in his bid to become the Kibra member of parliament. Just days after being cleared to contest in the by-election, his nomination has been contested.
On September 18, 2019, Morris Peter Kinyanjui filed a petition before the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal challenging Mariga's nomination. Kinyanjui, who was also seeking the Jubilee party ticket, alleges that the nomination exercise was not conducted in line with the party's constitution and laid down regulations.
According to the petition, Kinyanjui believes he has a strong case and is seeking the board to hear and determine the case before the by-election on November 7, 2019. The aspirant has sued Mariga, the Jubilee Party Elections Board, and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as the first respondent.
