Published on September 18, 2019, Kenya is set to receive six military helicopters from the United States before the end of this year.
According to MD Helicopters, the Arizona-based plane manufacturer, the six MD 530F Cayuse Warrior Scout and light-attack platforms ordered by Kenya in 2018 will be delivered by the end of this year.
The helicopters are part of a 12-military chopper deal worth Sh25 billion, which was approved by the United States Congress in May 2017.
Initially, the weapons were set to be delivered between April and August this year, but MD Helicopters did not provide reasons for the delay.
As reported by IHS Jane's Defense Weekly, the US Defense Security Co-operation Agency (DSCA) stated last year that the helicopters will help Kenya 'modernize its rotorcraft fleet in order to improve border security, undertake operations against Somalia-based jihadist group Al-Shabaab and contribute to the African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom)'.
