On September 17, 2019, Kajiado County Assembly Majority Leader Julius Moipai addressed the media at a hotel in Athi River, amidst confusion over the failed sittings of the assembly.
According to reports, Speaker Johnson Osoi failed to sign a Gazette notice to have Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) resume sittings after the lapse of a notice of adjournment signed last week.
The adjournment notice had indicated that a special sitting would resume on September 17, but the MCAs were shocked to learn that the speaker had refused to sign the Gazette notice.
Yesterday, about 30 MCAs allied to Governor Joseph ole Lenku held a Press conference at a hotel in Athi River town, where they hit out at the Speaker for the failure to reconvene the House.
Finance Bill The failure to have the sittings resume could affect the discussion on the 2019/2020 Finance Bill, which is due for dispensation by September 30.
Majority Leader Julius Moipai stated, "We have made a decision, we shall remove him from office. But this should not affect dispensation of the Finance Bill, which is due for signing in two weeks,"
The MCAs have vowed to remove Mr Osoi over a barrage of accusations that touch on corruption, citing the controversial award of a tender for construction of ultramodern assembly chambers.
