On September 17, 2019, the Meru County Assembly was forced to suspend its Order Paper due to a low attendance of male members, who had gathered to attend the burial of Peter Linturi, the father of Senator Mithika Linturi.
Only six out of 69 MCAs, all female, were present at the afternoon session, chaired by Kisima MCA Joy Karambu.
Deputy President William Ruto attended the burial ceremony, laying a wreath on the grave of Peter Gichunge Linturi.
Senator Mithika Linturi's estranged wife, Marianne Kitany, had initially indicated her intention to attend the funeral, describing Peter Linturi as a friendly father-in-law.
However, she later turned back due to security concerns, citing possible violence.
Kitany had also expressed her fond memories of Peter Linturi in a statement, saying, "There is a lot more I could share in terms of fond memories with the Late Mzee. May his soul rest in peace."
