Published on September 17, 2019, KFC is pushing the boundaries of fast food with its latest experiment: a fried chicken and donut sandwich.
The 'Chicken and Donuts' sandwich is part of a new menu being tested in Virginia and Pittsburgh. This move comes after KFC recently tested plant-based chicken in a single market in Georgia.
While some people are excited about the idea, others are raising concerns about the nutritional value of the sandwich. A basket of fried chicken tenders or chicken on the bone paired with one or two donuts can be a calorie bomb, with some estimates suggesting it could have over 720 calories.
However, KFC is not alone in offering fried chicken and donuts. Several other restaurants, including Bagock Fried Chicken and Donuts in Brooklyn, NY, and Federal Donuts in Philadelphia, have been serving this combination for a while.
According to KFC, consumers are increasingly seeking unique flavor combinations that blend sweet and savory tastes. While there are other ways to achieve this, the fried chicken and donut sandwich is certainly an... interesting option.
