Published on September 17, 2019, Marianne Kitany, the estranged wife of Meru Senator Mithika Linturi, has explained why she missed the funeral of her former father-in-law, Peter Linturi.

Kitany had indicated on Monday that she would attend the funeral, but she turned back after getting wind of possible violence. In a statement, she claimed that she was informed that goons had been hired to block her entry and that she would have been harmed if she had succeeded in gaining entry.

Kitany and Linturi are embroiled in a bitter court battle, with the senator describing her as a visitor who overstayed her welcome. However, Kitany has fond memories of Peter Linturi, whom she considered a friendly father-in-law.

She recalled taking him to Karen Hospital early last year after he fell sick, and recuperating with him in her house in Runda. They were involved in an accident on their way back to Meru, but luckily, they all suffered minor injuries.

Kitany expressed her pain at missing the funeral and shared fond memories of Peter Linturi, including the time he made jokes with her and her siblings in hospital.
