On September 17, 2019, a daring robbery occurred at Odda Airstrip in Moyale, Marsabit, where Sh47 million was stolen from Equity Bank.

The money was being transported by air from Nairobi to Moyale when three robbers struck, brandishing a pistol and forcing their way into the plane.

According to police, Sh60 million was being flown to Moyale at the time of the robbery, but the robbers managed to make away with two money bags containing Sh47 million.

Eastern Regional Police Commander Eunice Kihiko revealed that the case has been handed over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nairobi, and detectives are now focusing on the possibility that the theft was an inside job.

With the porosity of the Kenya-Ethiopia border, the hope of recovering the money is dwindling, and detectives are extending the search to Moyale town on the Ethiopian side.
