Gor Mahia has abandoned Moi Stadium Kisumu as their home venue in the Kenyan Premier League due to heavy losses incurred during matches played there.

Club president Ambrose Rachier cited low gate collection returns as the main reason for the decision, attributing it to uncontrolled ticket fraud.

During their last match against Tusker on August 31, tickets worth Sh. 511,000 were sold, but the club only received Sh. 112,000, while incurring Sh. 600,000 in expenses for preparations and air travel.

Rachier accused the stewards of colluding with some fans to access the stadium, taking bribes as low as Sh. 50 to facilitate the fraud.

He also confirmed that the club would continue using the e-ticketing system introduced this season, but expressed concerns that those entrusted with assisting fans in the process were diverting monies into their own accounts.

Meanwhile, Rachier highlighted the lack of a stadium as a major hurdle to financial freedom, citing complicated legal issues surrounding the allocated land in Kasarani.
