On September 17, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Matilda Sakwa as the new director of the National Youth Service (NYS) in Kenya, replacing Richard Ndubai who was embroiled in a corruption scandal.

Matilda Sakwa, who has over 29 years of experience in public service, has been tasked with restoring the image of NYS, which has been marred by corruption allegations.

President Kenyatta expressed his confidence in Sakwa's ability to lead NYS and transform the lives of Kenyan youth, saying, "I have faith that this organization can change the lives of our youth."

Sakwa has a wealth of experience in public service, having worked in various capacities, including as a county commissioner in Machakos County.

Her appointment comes at a time when NYS is facing a major overhaul following the corruption scandal that led to the arrest of several top officials, including Ndubai.

President Kenyatta has expressed his commitment to transforming NYS and making it a model for youth empowerment in Kenya.
