On September 17, 2019, the burial of Senator Mithika Linturi's father, Mzee Peter Linturi, turned into a scene of public humiliation for his partner, Marianne Kitany.
Family members, seemingly in a well-calculated move, failed to recognize Kitany as part of their family during the ceremony.
The family representative tasked with reading the eulogy selectively mentioned Mercy Kaimenyi as the only wife to the Meru Senator, leaving DP William Ruto and other dignitaries visibly uncomfortable.
Kitany, visibly embarrassed, followed the rest of the event with her head down, as a section of bold family members openly discussed her as the source of Mzee's death.
According to family sources, the late Mzee Peter Linturi was shocked after learning through court proceedings that his son's palatial home in Meru was built by Kitany, contrary to their traditional belief that it was a taboo for a woman to build a house for a man.
